The new dimension
of efficient
biomethane production.

Concentrated expertise for green energy

LUCRESTA stands for an innovative production process for generating sustainable energy from biomass residues. The idea of efficiently using the abundant biomass residues as substrates for modern biomethane production in industrial plants has brought together more and more competent partners from various sectors since 2022:
  • The PM Pfennings Mobility Group is a family business with about 750 employees, 120 filling stations nationwide, and over 5,000 business customers in various sectors, ensuring the mobility of today and tomorrow. The Pfennings Group is currently diversifying into renewable energies, such as e-mobility, e-fuels, solar energy, hydrogen and biomethane. Their contribution: Know-how in business development and project management, many years of experience in business management, the construction of production facilities, and immediately available resources.
  • Prof. Dr. Frank Riemenschneider-Greif is Scientific Director of ISFM GmbH in Münster and has been a professor at Münster University of Applied Sciences for more than 22 years. His extensive expertise in the field of biomethane production forms the basis for the process technology developed by LUCRESTA. Together with his partners, he has the technical know-how and years of experience in constructing and operating industrial biomethane plants.
  • The team is further complemented by a company experienced in providing equity and debt capital.
The LUCRESTA concept has recieved a broad response in both politics and business. As a result, additional areas have been to meet the growing demand for holistic project planning.
LUCRESTA's main business activities are divided into two strong companies, each with a clear focus:
LUCRESTA Clean Energy GmbH represents the technical arm, specializing in the process technology "Made in Germany" andthe development of biomethane production plants at various scales.
Prof. Dr. Frank Riemenschneider-Greif is responsible for the management together with Fred Pfennings.
LUCRESTA Sustainable Invest GmbH focuses on the development, financing and management of LUCRESTA plant projects. Together with its numerous partners, it arranges strategic investments and creates the financial framework for the realization of large-scale biomethane plants.  Prof. Dr. Frank Riemenschneider-Greif manages the company.
LUCRESTA technology is characterized by the following:
  • it it is able to ferment substrates rich in crude fiber (an independent gas yield report states: "The greater the proportion of poorly degradable components in the substrate, the greater the added value of the LUCRESTA process" (Arcanum 2024).
  • only biomass residues are used to produce biomethane, mening no additional square meters of cultivation area are required.
  • the innovative technology and special microcultures are perfectly coordinated.
  • the biomethane plant is a CO2-negative operation.

Efficient biomethane production from lignocellulosic biogenic feedstocks

Our goal

A study by the EU identified the potential for a 45-fold increase in bio-methane production based on the available substrates for conventional biogas plants. With the innovative and highly efficient LUCRESTA production process, we can generate significantly more sustainable energy from regionally available biogenic residues. This will play a major role in achieving the EU´s goals outlined in the „Biogases towards 2040 and Beyond“ study.

According to high-ranking EU specialists, the potential for 60 MW LUCRESTA standard plants in the EU exceeds 400 plants, translation into over 200 TerraWatt of energy.
